  1. Default Kentucky via West Virginia

Hi, My family is leaving for Lexington KY on Saturday. We are driving from the Philly area and plan to do it in one day. I would like to make a long stop in West Va along the route for a picnic and short hike. Does anyone know of a neat place to stop along route 79? Are there other non-nature stops along the drive that might be worth a stop in case of rain?

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!

The trip you are planning to take shows about 650 road miles, which makes for a fairly long day.

As far as areas off of I-79 for hiking, I don't know of any in particular - despite having traveled that section many times - but you might want to check out the Stonewall Jackson Wildlife area.

Wow - thank you! This looks perfect. Can anyone drive into the resort area? It's a bit confusing when you look at seems to be listed as both a state park and a private resort.
