  1. Default 3-4 Week Camping trip covering Western US

3/4 Families wishing to take 3/4 week trip out west visiting National Parks and major attractions. We are also interested in Hiking, Rafting and especially Mountain Biking favorites. We are from Michigan and are looking to make a "loop" and would like to start by heading SW, N and then NE toward home.

We are in beginning statges for trip during summer of 2012. Any input is appreciated

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

Much as the regular contributors here try to help people fine tune their own RoadTrip plans, this site is not a free detailed travel planning service. We cannot construct your trip on as little information as you've given. About the best we can do is list a bunch of national parks that you could string together relatively easily on a 3-4 week excursion that meets your general criteria: Oregon Trail. Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado National Monument, Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Monument Valley Tribal Park, Grand Canyon National Park, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Great Salt Lake, Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Devils Tower National Monument, and Badlands National Park. any on-line mapping routine will show you the connection roads. You'd have to devote about 9 days total to driving but that still leaves you about 2½ weeks worth of adventures.

Appreciate the comments and we are not looking for someone to plan our vacation. Simply what people have done and had fun... if willing to share their experiences.

Also, thanks for the list of parks. We had already been pulling some of the parks you listed, but as I mentioned before, we are in beginning stages. We've never done a trip on a large scale like this so.... honestly not certain where to start.

    Thanks again.

I think you need to sit down as a group and discuss things amongst yourself and discover common ground, by going through details such as the pace you want to travel at, how long each might want to stay in one place, agree on places that suit everyone's tastes. Once you have some dots on the map and a rough idea of a timeline we can then help to fill in the blanks and make meaningful suggestions. All the National parks have Hiking options and Moab UT is a popular place [one of many places ] for rafting and Biking and in a great location for Arches and Canyonlands NP exploring. The National parks are also great for camping in, as long as you don't expect resort type facilities.

Use the search function and you will find loads of info through the forums, and check the tool bars above for Roadtrip planning, routes, attractions etc and the Map Centre to create routes and look for attractions. Once you have a few ideas down that are agreeable with the group and new questions crop up, just ask.
