Default Atlantic City instead of Lost Wages

As much as we would like to go to Las Vegas, it just isn't economically feasible (plane tickets alone are a killer). So we are taking a look at going to Atlantic City. Understanding that AC is not on the grand scale that LV is...we were wondering if it is still as exciting? We aren't going necessarily for the gambling (I never win anyway)...more for the shows and some of the nightlife.

This would be a road trip from around Savannah, GA in late September (our anniversary) and staying 2 nights. Was wondering if anyone has any advice about places to stay, must-see shows, dining options, things to do. Also wondering if booking some kind of a package is a better deal. We have never done a package anything (except our honeymoon to DisneyWorld).

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thankx...

    Welcome!

Our "good neighbor" rules don't allow me to post what I really think of AC. Let's just say that if you are not a gambler, there are other places to go that you would probably be happier with. Once you get off the Boardwalk, it's a pretty depressed area.

Not exactly what we wanted to hear...but appreciate your honesty. Maybe we'll think on something a little farther south...and closer to home...like Myrtle Beach, SC.

I think Myrtle Beach would be a much better choice. It's also a much easier drive. Another option for entertainment might be Gatlinburg TN.

Being from New Jersey, I stay away from the area away from the boardwalk in Atlantic City and even that could be a little odd late at night. I stay in a resort casino and hang out there. There are shows to see, particularly on the weekend, but if you aren't going to primarily gamble it probably wouldn't be hte place you are looking for.
