Default Las Vegas to San Diego

I am really happy to have discovered this site! I have traveled around the US on a number of road trips so I am excited to find a place to get more info and perhaps pass on to others some of the info that I have discovered.

My next trip is in April/May this year. Part of our trip involves driving from Vegas to San Diego. Although I have traveled around many places in the South West, I have never made this particular journey. Route planners estimate this journey at about 4 and 3/4 hours. Can anyone tell me if this is this realistic? Are there any traffic hot spots we should avoid (or times of day?) as I don't want to be on the road all day. Also, can anyone recommend a good place to stop for lunch on the way that is convenient and not too pricey.

    Many thanks

    Default That's a bit optimistic.....

If you just want to get there without sightseeing, it's about 5.5 hours via I-15 all the way if you drive close to the speed limit. There shouldn't be any traffic issues except on Sunday - I-15 gets very congested with everyone coming back to LA from Vegas after a weekend. Of course, rush hour during the week will be congested around LA and SD. If you wanted to make it an all-day evolution, I can recommend a very scenic route.

I can recommend the Holland Burger Cafe in Victorville. It's been featured on the Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives show on the Food Network. Get off I-15 at the CA-18, D Street, Historic 66 exit and head northwest out of town toward the airport, it's a bit over a mile from the freeway.

Another possibility that's closer to San Diego is Tom's Farms just south of Corona. It's right at the Temescal Canyon Road exit.

    That very useful - thanks

We have lots packed in to our trip so sadly I think it will be just a case to "getting from A to B" on this occasion as we really want to try and spend as much time as possible in San Diego having never visited there before. (I really hate to rush on through but we only have so much time!)

I really like the sound of your restaurant recommendations so will definitely try to give one of them a go.

    Thanks for your help.
