  1. Default Toronto-Chicago-Denver-LasVegas-SanFrancisco-Portland any advice??

    Hi there,
we're planning a roadtrip from Toronto (actually Buffalo NY, since we rent a car from there) to Portland via the places i mentioned in the title.
We have 12, at best 14 days for the entire trip. We will be 4 people, at least 2 drivers. We're planning on renting a minivan, honk car hire offers some good deals, since we have a lot of luggage. Is the distance doable in the time given? It will be in May.I'd really appreciate any advice that you might have on the trip, where to rent a car, places to stop, what else to consider... thanks so much.
    Cheers Emil

    Default Welcome!

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!

What you're looking at is roughly a 6,000 mile round trip, so expect to spend an average of 500 miles, or 10 hours, per day of driving on your 12 days. If that sounds appealing to you, then, yes, it is doable. However, you're probably going to want to explore some places in more depth instead of driving most of the time. If there's a portion of this trip that you could save for another time, I would suggest doing just that.

    Default So many options.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

With 6/7 long days on the road you could cover your miles, [providing the trip ends in Portland] so you have time for some sight seeing along the way. For places to see, well there are thousands of possibilities that are wide and varied so you would have to do a little research to see which would appeal to you. As you have a number of City's listed I will offer a few alternatives such as National parks, Rocky mountain NP, Arches, Canyonlands, Zion, Bryce canyon, Grand canyon, Death valley and Yosemite to name 'a few'. Other natural wonders could include Colorado National monument and Monument valley, scenic drives over Loveland pass or US550 [known as the 'Million dollar highway' ] through the mountain towns of Ouray and Silverton in Colorado, or scenic by way 12 in Utah. You won't be able to do it all but if you look around the forums and other RTA pages like the Map centre above you can start putting some dots on the map and then we can help to fill in the blanks.

As for vehicle rental you are best off just searching for the best deal that fits your requirements when you travel. As each company competes for your dollar, deals are alway's changing and last weeks best deal won't be next weeks. Keep an eye out for mileage charges and one way drop off fees when comparing.

    Enjoy the planning !
