Thread: CA to CO

  1. Default CA to CO

Looking for suggestions for mid summer trip from Sacramento, CA to Fraser, CO (west of Denver).

Sight seeing isn't the main focus - getting to the destination in a relatively efficient, safe manner is.

    Thank you.

    Default Keeping it efficient.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

Well the most efficient route would be I80 to US 40 just East of SLC, or alternatively US 50 to I 70 which is just a little longer. Either route will take 2 days of driving with time for short stops, for food and bathroom breaks and to fill with gas, add time to that for any sight seeing you might want to do along the way. Salt lake city on I80 or somewhere around Delta on US50 would put you in good shape for the second day but I don't know what lodging options there are. An extra day would make it far more relaxing, it depends on your overall plan.

Lodging options in Delta and Salina are very limited - you would need to head south a bit to Richfield to get a decent choice.

My mapping program says that the I-80/US-40 route is 2 hours shorter than I-80/US-50/I-70. However, if this is a round trip, why not take one route on the way out and the other on the way back?
