Default Pittsburgh, PA to Sandusky, Ohio (Cedar Point). Any scenic routes?

Hello. My family and I are going to Cedar Point for an overnight stay this Memorial Day weekend. Does anyone know of any scenic, off the highway routes we can take? We don't have much time to stop anywhere, but having pretty scenery to look at would be nice.

How much time can you allow for the trip? Simply taking the fastest Interstate route will take at least 3 hours.

Default For an Hour (or so) More

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

Basically, it is going to take you a half day's drive to get from Pittsburgh to Sandusky. If you want scenery, then you really are talking about a significant departure from the Turnpike route through Youngstown and Cleveland. A good alternative would be to take US-22 west out of Pittsburgh to Cadiz, OH and follow US-250 from there all the way to Sandusky. This will 'cost' you at least an hour more of driving, maybe a bit more, but if you have the time it is your best alternative. If time is too tight for that, you really will need to stick to the Turnpikes.

Thanks for the replies! I calculated the 22 to 250 route you suggest, and you're right on, it adds about an hour and 15 minutes. We are very close to route 22, so I will definitely look into that. Thanks!

When I go to Cedar Point I go this way every time and I think it's a good way to see the Backroads and you go through Canton and get to see the Football Hall of Fame it's a very good tway to see parts of Ohio

Thanks for replying with such a great idea, Pepyum, and welcome to RTA! Unfortunately, though, the thread originated back in 2010, and I'm not sure I've seen that poster on the forum in recent days. Please feel free to drop in on other threads and start your own, if you'd like!
