    Default Journey across USA

Hey all, my name is Donal and I'm one of the two support drivers for a team that will be cycling all the way from Seattle to Washington DC to raise money for a pair of charities.

I'm posting here because me and my friend Rob will be driving the support vehicle (a Chevrolet Uplander) all the way from the west to east coast with the cycle team. I've never been to the States before so I'm looking for any advice you can give me, no matter how random or obvious it might seem to you!

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

I'm not really sure how much help you'd need on a trip like this. Being a support vehicle, you really aren't going to have much anything for options, are you? I would think that in a case like this all of your stops will be preplanned, and you really won't have the ability to do much anything beyond what the cycling tour organizers have already decided for you.

If you have some specific questions, we'll do our best to help, but right now, I really have no idea what sort of advice would be helpful for your situation.

Thanks. The stops and accommodation are pretty much sorted but everything else is up in the air. As the guys will be cycling and we'll be driving we'll have plenty of time to see the sights.

Information that would be helpful would be:
Where are the cheapest places to buy petrol, and where to avoid?

Where's best for food, generally, and where to avoid!

We'll be driving from Seattle to DC and generally avoiding the interstates, driving mostly on smaller roads. Any advice on interesting places to see on the way, towns to avoid or to see?

Default As Near as I Can Tell

Your route will basically follow I-90/I-80/I-76/I-70. Major sights along that route near enough to get to by car, but not necessarily by bike, include Yellowstone National Park, Little Bighorn Battlefield, Devils Tower, Badlands National Park, Mall of America, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and Antietam Battlefield. There are books devoted to good restaurants, but they go out of date before they go out of print. The best advice anyone can give you is to inquire locally.

Great, I'll look those places up. Thanks!
