  1. Default Northern California coastal road trip

I am driving to Oregon from Santa Barbara and taking the coast. I would love to find hot springs on the way, as well as any other suggestions for the trip. I do not mind going inland if necessary to see something cool.

    Default For the Most Part

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

Hot Springs will generally be located about 100-150 miles inland from the coast. Geologically speaking, this is where 'the subducting Juan de Fuca Plate gets deep enough to partially melt and send magma up towards the surface. That's probably more than you need to know, but hot springs will follow roughly the same line as the active volcanoes of the Cascade Range: Ranier, St. Helens, Hood, Crater Lake, Lassen, etc. Here are a couple of maps of the hot springs of Oregon and California.
