Default Recommendations for places to stay

We are in the process of arranging this years road trip through the South West.

On a few occasions en route we are staying multiple nights. In these places I would much rather stay somewhere that has been recommended and am willing to pay a little more than a standard motel rate of the place is worth it (although I do like cheap as well if the quality is good !).

Do any of you road trippers out there have recommendations for me for places to stay in or around

    Sedona AZ
    Chinle AZ
    Durango CO
    Santa Fe/Los Alamos NM ?

    Any comments gratefully recieved.

I have stayed in the Super 8 in Durango twice. It's one of the better Super 8's I've stayed in, it's clean and well maintained. I'm sure there are nicer places to stay in that area, but I've never looked!

We enjoyed our 3 day stay at the Super 8 in Sedona.

I can only make one recommendation here:

We stayed in Cortez, Co, which isn't far from Durgano. We really enjoyed the Best Western Turquoise Inns & Suites. We had a two-room suite, each room with a king bed and one room with a pull-out sofa as well. The suites are all in one corner of the hotel, and there's a pool right there so you can sit out on the porch and watch the kids play. The bathroom was huge. They serve a good breakfast the next morning. It was one of our favorite chain-hotel stays.

This hotel is very convenient to Mesa Verde National Park, which I think might've been my favorite stop of our three-week trip.

Cortez has little in the way of fancy restaurants, but you won't go hungry. I'm pretty sure we stopped at a Super-Walmart there to restock bottled water, sandwich fixings and other necessities.

Let me add this - if you like American BBQ, there's an excellent BBQ joint right across the highway from the Super 8 in Durango, it's called Serious Texas.
