Default College Students Driving from LA, California to Jacksonville North Carolina

We have started to plan our Road trip (that is how I found this website) but we are not far along in our planning. We are taking our time to drive there (we are thinking 2 or 3 weeks). We are leaving from Los Angeles, CA on June 16. We want to see as much as possible for as cheap as we can. We are thinking about going south but we are not yet sure. Right now we are making a list of things that we want to see and then we are thinking about playing connect the dots with those places being the dots and the connection our path. We want to see Graceland, Paula Dean, the Alamo, the Mississippi River, the Country Music hall of fame, the Grand ole Opry and things like that.
So my questions to those of you that have traveled through the southern part of the USA or live in that area what should you suggest we see?? What is there to do or see that we should not miss? What would you want to do or see if you were in your mid twenties and were taking this trip? Our Country is beautiful and we have this chance to see some of the beauty Please help us.

    Thank you!

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

That's exactly the way we generally recommend that yo start planning a RoadTrip. find the big attractions first, figure out a general route, and then start filling in the other sights and sites along the way. The other thing you should probably be doing early in your planning process is to figure out, with your friends, the type of trip that you want to have. Just to help get you started, your basic route would probably follow I-40 with 'big ticket items' such as the Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Oklahoma City Memorial, Hot Springs, and Great Smoky Mountains and a few small detours t0o quirky locations like Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo and Elvis' birthplace in Tupelo.
