Default Recommendations for SD, WY Trip

We are planning a trip to South Dakota & Wyoming in mid August 2010. We plan on stopping @ Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park & Yellowstone/Tetons. Interested in any recommendations--including daytrips, scenic drives & good food from your experiences. We enjoy backroad trips to out of the way places for views, scenery and dining. Three adults--no children. We are driving from IA to WY and then back thru SD.

    Default starting point

    Welcome to the RTA Forum.

We really don't believe in must sees here, since that depends completely on your individual taste - which you've really told us nothing about.

Having said that, it would seem the obvious stops would be the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Jewel/Wind Caves, Custer State Park, Devils Tower, and Yellowstone/Tetons. Obviously those are just the major attractions, which can provide a starting point for you as you plan your trip.

    Default And then there is......

The Centre of the Nation (20 miles north of Belle Fourche) and route alt 14 over the Big Horn Mountains, Big Horn Canyon and the Medicine Wheel.

And Cody. Or you could take 310 north from Lovell to 212, and drive the magnificent Beartooth Highway over Beartooth Pass, into the north eastern entrance of Yellowstone. Pick up a coffee at the Top of the World Store.

Lifey who knows you will find lots more
