  1. Default Chicago to San Diego and back - 6 weeks

Hello! Would love some suggestions and recommendations (any and all!) for a month-6 week road trip we're taking.......We started in Chicago and are now in Michigan....and heading to Columbus, OH in a few days. From Columbus, we were thinking of making stops and traveling by this way:

    Louisville, KY
    Nashville, TN
    Memphis, TN
    Little Rock, AR
    Oklahoma City, OK
    Albuquerque, NM >> Santa Fe
Flagstaff, AZ >> head thru the Mojave Desert >>
    Los Angeles, CA
San Diego, CA >>> thru Joshua Tree Forest
    Scottsdale, AZ
    Las Cruces, NM
    Odessa, TX
    Dallas, TX
    Austin, TX
    San Antonio, TX
    Houston, TX
    Shreveport, LA
    Tulsa, OK
    St. Louis, MO
    Chicago, IL

the route back from Scottsdale through Texas seems a little scattered, and would love some suggestions on the way back to Chicago.....We really want to see all the major cities in Texas....wondering if it makes more sense to catch Dallas on the way out to CA instead of on the way back......

    Would love any input!

We have a 2008 Toyota Yaris, and really need some comfortable seat attachments!!

Default If It Works, It's Right

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having a route that looks a little 'scattered'. If it goes through the places you want to visit, then it's a perfectly good route for you. You have the time needed to mosey around a bit as well as spend a little time in each of the cities you'll be visiting, so if this is what you've come up with - fine. The one change that might work just a shade better is to go ...San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Shreveport, Dallas... But even that's not at all a big change.

    Default Route 66

At some point, you should drive along Route 66.

If time allows in the earlier portion of your trip, you may want to consider cutting a little east of Nashville to get a taste of the Cumberland Plateau. Scott's Gulf is one fantastic very off the beaten path wilderness area.
