  1. Default Advice from LA to San Fran & Avenue of the Giants.

I would like some advice from anyone whose ever travelled from LA to San Fran.

I've a 21 day trip planned as follows which will be from mid march to early april.

    Friday Arrive in LA
    Saturday LA
Sunday Leave LA PM and travel up highway 1 to san fran and reach their thursday pm.

What are the best places to stop and experience on the way up to San Fran?

I will be staying in san fran from thursday pm till sunday am when i want to drive up to the avenue of the giants, from their i will turn around and head to lake tahoe where i plan to meet up with friends. Has anyone any idea how long that will take me to do Avenue of The Giants to Tahoe.

From there on i will be heading to vegas, san diego and heading back to LA so i have all that planned already.

Any information will be greatly received.

    Default A couple of thoughts.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

We don't do "best" or "must see's" around here as we are all different but you certainly have plenty of time to enjoy the PCH on the way to San Fran. You might want to consider taking the time out for a Hearst castle tour. You will find lots of info along the coast by using the search function and you can decide what appeals.

With the time you have in San Fran I would also recommend an Alcatraz tour that you can book in advance to avoid waiting in line for tickets.

From Humboldt SP to Tahoe [depending on where] I would allow at least 8-9 hours on the road.

I'd stay Garberville for your visit to Humboldt Redwoods SP. If you start SF early you'll have all afternoon for a visit and you'll need that time. Avenue of the Giants just starts north of Garberville and you'll also will find some drive thru trees in that area. It's all very spectacular. From Garberville to South Lake Tahoe count on 7 hours but it easily can take longer.
