Not that it changes the answer, but DC is technically not a state. I-95 does go through a tiny corner of the district as it crosses the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. This is still 15 states, I'd guess the next closest one would be I-90 at 13 states.

While it's not an Interstate, some day I'd like to drive through the 14 states traversed by old US Highway 6.

Check out the details on Wikipedia:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_6

I see it starts near Bishop, California (on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada near the Nevada border).

    Here are the states:
    California
    Nevada
    Utah
    Colorado
    Nebraska
    Iowa
    Illinois
    Indiana
    Ohio
    Pennsylvania
    New York
    Connecticut
    Rhode Island
    Massachusetts

  5. Default Rte 6

And the other end of US Route 6 is Provincetown, Massachusetts on the tip of Cape Cod. This is truly a fun end-of-the-road town, kind of like New England's version of Key West.
