    Default To Hell and back!

I started planning this ride last October. I wanted to plan a Iron Butt ride that would be fun and also scenic.
This ride would be a Iron Butt SS1000. To complete this ride you need to travel over 1000 miles and do it in less than 24 hours.
First I had to make the map and then started planning the gas stops.
Some members of the local club also joined me on this ride. We started this ride just south of Milwaukee.
Headed south through Chicago and then rode to Hell, Michigan. From Hell we took I-127 through the center of Michigan up to the Mackinaw Bridge. Rode over the bridge and then over the top of Lake Michigan along Hwy. 2 and then took Hwy. 41 to Fond du lac, Wisconsin to add on a few more miles.
We started this ride at 3:30 am on Saturday, June 27th and we were back home by 11:30 pm.
My total miles for this trip were 1040 and the time to complete the ride was about 20 hours.

A few pictures from the trip.

The route. The letters are the gas stops. Hell is letter D.

    My Victory Kingpin.

Riding through Chicago. 4:30 am. Not much traffic. :)

    Hell. New ownership???

Had time for ice cream. I'm waiting for my Grave Digger banana split. Mmmmm

    The Post office.

    The group.

The Hell Riders. I'm on the far left.

    Heading north on Hwy 127

A lot of two lane roads. On the way to Petoskey, Michigan.

Gas stop. It's getting a little crazy. Everyone seemed to have fun.

    Bridge ahead.

    The Mackinaw Bridge.

Crossing the bridge. It was windy.

    Upper Michigan

More two lane roads. Hwy. 2 over the top of Lake Michigan, just before the rain started.

    Killed a lot of bugs!!!!

    I got the shirt. Cool!

This was a fun, challenging and very scenic trip. I can't wait to go again!

    Hi Dave.
The name of ice cream store was Screams!
The fun part about the Grave Digger Sundae was that it came with a signed and dated Death certificate.

    Default No Leathers?

From the photos, none of your riding mates are wearing leathers? What's up with that? I know none of you "intend" to lay down your steeds, but levi's weren't built to withstand road rash the way a good pair of leather pants and jacket can....

Mark you are right. They always say you should dress for the crash not the ride.

My official time. 1040 miles, 20 hours and 38 minutes.
Great time for a group ride. We spent an hour in Hell, stopped for dinner and even spent a little time talking at the gas stops. Great group of riders.
    Hell Riders rock!!

Default It's still an impressive feat

But... tell me, how long did it take you to sit down anywhere for a couple of days? That Victory is a fine, big cruiser... but oh vey -- that's a lot of sitting time!

It takes a few days to recover. :)

One mistake on the ride was not drinking enough water. Which is what I think was the reason that two hours
after I did fall asleep I jumped out of bed with one of the worst leg cramps I ever had. That hurt!!
I really have to make sure that I take the time to drink enough fluids on future trips.
