Default san diego to seattle next summer maybe september time..1st road trip

me and a friend are planning a road trip from san diego to seattle and any help you guys can give would be much appreciated.
its a trip i saw in a holiday brochure,i like the begining and end destinations but am not really keen on the idea of sitting on a coach for 17 days!!
are there and sites i can search that maybe specialise in these type of holidays as i would like flights accoomadation and car rental all arranged by one company for convenience,i have a basic route but havent really looked at roads/highways ect yet, were flying in from the uk and its been a dream of mine for years to drive across the uk an if this trip goes well i plan on doing a different route every year!!!

    Default Hmmm.... Not Really

Cymru Am Byth! Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America forums!

While I do know of one company that sets up such one-of-a-kind tours, they only do so for trips to Alaska. This is actually the forte of travel agencies and I would therefore suggest that you get in touch with one locally in Cardiff that you can sit down and work with on a semi-regular basis. This sounds like it's going to require some give and take, and maybe more than one visit as you get things arranged to your satisfaction. There may be a fee involved, but sometimes the agent gets paid by the hotels, airlines and car hire firms that they direct you to. Either way, there will be a price to pay for having someone set this up for you.

thought it may be a little ambitious! ive never planned anything like this before, travel agents over here mostly make money on comission so ill give it a little more research before i go down there anyway..the coast of oregon looks amazing, thanks for your help anyway..impressed with the welsh lol

    Default Planning is fun!

Hello and welcome to RTA !

Have you considered going it alone ? It really isn't that difficult to book your own flights, car rental and lodgings. Although it might seem to be a big task and a bit daunting to start with, once you do some research and find places that interest you, members here will be pleased to answer any questions you may have. It really can become a very enjoyable part of the experience, and you get to go where you want, when you want, without having to pay someone for the privilege of telling you what to do. The real beauty of the road trip is that sense of freedom it can offer the individual. It will set you up nicely and prepare you for those trips to come over the years.
Have a look around the forums and road trip planning pages, they are full of info.

You generally don't have to prebook hotels except in very popular areas in high season. Why lock yourself into having to go a particular distance in one day? 17 days to get from San Diego to Seattle is tons of time to see all kinds of places.

ok to give you a rough idea of the route we would like a day or 2 in san diego to chill then LA the same just to look around as there is tons to do there, then leave early for santa barbera and then spend the night in solvang or maybe San Luis Obispo ..next day head for SF with a few stops along the way and spend some time there..on to Sonoma - Eureka..(avenue of the giants?Humboldt Bay) on to Redwood National Park - Coos Bay staying in coos bay..bandon by the sea looks awesome..and i cant wait to see the oregon coast!!!on to newport via the siuslaw national forest stopping off at a beach maybe? on to portland via tillamook (cape kiwanda..Cape Lookout State Park..Cape Meares State Scenic viewpoint) spend a night in portland maybe the following day then on to seattle where we have loads planned out on paper lol..the highlight of my friends trip is visiting aberdeen where kurt cobain was born as he is the hugest fan..so thats our trip basically so help away :)

If you want to go up the coast road between LA and SF (HIGHLY recommended) you would want to take at least 2 days from SLO to SF. It's not a fast drive, the scenery is spectacular, and there are a lot of things to see on the way up - Hearst Castle tour, Carmel, Monterey, etc.
