Default L.A. to N.Y.C. and back again!

    Hello!

I live in England and I'm planning on flying to L.A. and road tripping to N.Y.C. and maybe even hop across the border to see my Canadian friend in Ontario! Then I wanna go back to L.A. =]

Any tips on which routes to take? (I would like to take one route west to east then another one east to west!)

Also, anyone know any decent car rental sites?

Oh and I'd like to take about 3 or 4 months with this trip! =D

Thanks to anyone who could help me =]

    Sid

    Default helping yourself

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

While we'd certainly like to help you, you've really got to take the first step. There are millions of possible routes and possible stops, but you've got to do a little research first and figure out what it is that sparks your own interest. You can start by doing something as simple as grabbing a map, and taking a look at all the places you could go over a trip that lasts a few months.

Car rentals again are something that really can vary alot, so you'll just have to shop around. Be aware, its quite possible you'll have to stop about once a month and let them check over the car.

There are no one sized fits all answers, and when you throw in the fact that you haven't told us anything about yourself, we just don't have much that we can do to help you at this point.

One thing I will mention is that there is a big difference between a 3 month and a 4 month trip in a legal sense. Once you get beyond 3 months, you'll need to get a full tourist visa which requires quite a bit more paperwork. Something else that you'll need to think about as you plan your trip.

Default thats a first step, sort of

Those are all places that you could fit into your trip, now that you've got at least some ideas, start plotting a route that would hit all of those places and any others that you come up with, and see what you come up with. Again, with this much time, your options are nearly endless.

    Default instincts

When it comes to safety and that sort of thing, the best thing you really can do is trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, move along. There's no generic list of places that should be avoided in general.
