  1. Default San Francisco, Yosimite, Vegas, LA in June

    Hi All
Advice required on best route by car to visit the above in June or July for 2 weeks. We also want to see the Grand Canyon and Carmel.

This will be our first visit to California and would like a scenic route.

Has this itinerary to many miles for 2 weeks?

Should we leave the car in Vegas and fly to LA?

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

If you look around this site a bit you'll find a couple of consistant things. First, there are very few "best" when it comes to planning a trip, there are lots of options and things to pick from, but when it comes to the "best' it depends upon the specific person and the specific trip. You'll also find that the basic trip you are thinking about is the single most talked about trip idea on this forum. There are thousands of posts on this area, so I'd suggest you start by looking around at some of our favorities, but also use the search function to find many more bits of advice.

As far as flying to LA from Vegas, personally, I can't think of many situations where it would be worth it. LA is a city where you really need a car to get around, so when you factor in time to drop off a car in vegas, go through security, actually make the short flight, and then rent another car, I don't think you'll end up saving much time, but you will likely spend quite a bit more money.

I would actually consider doing a loop from SF to SF which is popular. This way you get to see the very scenic coast from the PCH.

It would take shape something like this SF>Monterey>LA> GC>LV>Death valley>Yosemite>SF.

No, it should be quite comfortable but it's for you to decide how long you want to spend in each place against travelling time.

    Nope !

When you have had a look at some of those links Michael provided [and others] and you get an idea of your itinerary let us know and we can help you to "fine tune" it.

    Default Vegas-LA

No need to fly back instead driving but avoid driving Vegas-LA on a sunday afternoon because you'll be stuck at the interstates and no short cuts on byways. Avoid Las Vegas in the weekend anyhow. Prices are lower during the week (Sun-thu)
