  1. Default Escape from the city

I live in new york city and really want to get out of the city to be close to nature. I was thinking of going camping with a few friends of mine, maybe at a state park where we can maybe do some kayaking, or fishing, or hiking and cycling. Basically anything outdoors and no subway station in sight.
Is there any really nice national or state parks that is not more than a 4 hour drive away from the city? Would be nice if i can get some suggestions.

    Default Closer Than You Think

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

Actually, there are several great places even closer than 4 hours from NYC that offer everything you're looking for, including the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and Catskill State Park as well as the lesser known Wharton State Forest in the New Jersey Pine Barrens.
