You tell me?
Hi there, great forum.
I'm getting married in Vail, July 18th. My parents are coming from South Africa for the wedding and will be spending a week with us in the rockies fly fishing, hiking etc etc.
BUT, my folks want to visit the US for an extra 2 weeks while we head off on our honeymoon and I suggested they do the American way by hiring a RV & road tripping it.
Bearing in mind it's their 1st visit to the US, i suggested they stick the mid west & west states.....but they will need to start & end in Denver, so I am looking for a trip that would take them past the best sites in a 10 day period.
From previous posts, I gather these would be:
Being South African they are big wildlife & nature lovers......so anything that you recommend would be great. From places to stay and must see's, would really be a great start.
Thanks and touch base shortly.
A RV is going to be a lot more costly for only 2 weeks than a car and hotels. It's more of a lifestyle thing that would point toward a RV. If they are big outdoors people, tent camping with some nights in hotels may make more sense.
A Few Possible Additions
Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!
I agree that renting an RV for such a trip would not be cost effective, and unless your parents are used to driving such a vehicle, learning to drive one on the 'wrong' side of the road (for them) will further lessen the 'experience'. Some of the best wildlife viewing will be in the northern parks, Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. A good alternative route between Salt Lake City and those parks is US-89. Besides the places you've listed, they would do well to visit Rocky Mountain National Park, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks, and of course, Monument Valley.
