    Default Chicago to Charlotte, NC

My daughter and I are planning a road trip from around Chicago IL to around Charlotte, NC. I plan to do the drive over a period of two days, but can't decide where my halfway point should be - and what there is to do there.

I want to stop in Asheville before heading to Charlotte, but the drive to Asheville is too long for one day.

Any suggestions on where to stop on the route that would be about halfway and provide some good sightseeing? We're into touring old homes, good scenery. We're not into shopping, amusement parks or crowds.

    Thanks for any input!

Your halfway point would be Lexington, KY with some great horse farms and the Mary Todd Lincoln House among others.
