  1. Default Help Spring Roadtrip planning.

    HI,

My friend and I are planning on going on a road trip on our motorcycles this spring we don't have much time only 9 days. We are starting from western PA right about the pittsburgh area. We were wanting to go out to yellowstone and loop down to Wyoming and stop a few places there. I would really appreciate any other places we could stop like Mt. Rushmore or Crazy Horse first trip out west and we would like to make it a fun one. Any suggetions would be greatly appreciated.

    Big Horn Mountains.

Either Highway 14 or 16 in Northern Wyoming will take you through this area. I saw a whole group of motorcyclists up there, so obviously not too steep.

Lots of wildlife, the medicine wheel, the canyon and the (elusive) big horn sheep, make this a place well worth spending some time.

The first time I was up there, a moose stood in front of my vehicle and was not going to let me through till he was ready. A huge beast. I sat frozen in my car, so stunned that I did not even think to get out my camera.

    Welcome to the RTA forum!

How much experience do you have in long distance motorcycle trips? This is a very enthusiastic trip to do in just 9 days. If you were on your bikes 8 hours a day, you'd need 8 of your nine days just to drive out to Yellowstone and back. I'm not saying it can't be done, but that's a lot of time on a bike. You might want to either give yourself more time or shoot for a slightly shorter trip. Even just going to the Black Hills would save you 1000 miles of driving, or two long days of driving.

I would think 11 hours would be a bit much per day on a motorcycle, but the seat time seems close. I'd second the suggestion for the Big Horn Mountains, especially since they are on the direct route. You'll have to stick to a direct route since you don't have a whole lot of time.
