Default An East Coast Road Trip

I'm planning on doing a summer road trip with two or three of my friends. We're all college students and don't really want to drive too far from Pennsylvania for our first time. I'd say as far South as Georgia, as far West as Iowa and as far North as Maine (no Canada). We're hoping for a week-long trip.
I'm just looking for some destination ideas, "must-see"s, etc...
We all love the arts, nature, sight-seeing, and adventure. =)
    Please help!

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!

Here are some ideas (not an itinerary):

-Hiking in the Adirondacks of New York.
-Whale watching off the coast of Cape Cod.
    -Touring Boston.
-Catching a show at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA.
-Enjoying a swim in Lake Champlain.
-Visiting the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, with a cruise along Skyline Drive and on to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
-Keeping a safe distance from the bears in Monongahela National Forest.
-Stand in amazement at the New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia.

Just a few to get you started.

From Georgia here...if you are into, quirky stops, history and landmarks, here's a few more ideas for Georgia...I'll just list them.

    Stone Mountain
    Cades Cove (TN)
    Tallulah Gorge

If you like to have BBQ as I do when I's the place
Two Brothers BBQ in Ballground, GA

    If you like country cooking
    Buckners in Jackson, GA

    Have fun and travel safe.

When last year, I drove from Atlantic City NJ south, I really enjoyed the drive from Pocomoke City to Virginia Beach - route 13. Just wished I had allowed myself longer. Well, next time.

Fisherman's Pier was great for a relaxing stroll after driving through the CBBT. (Most of those fishing on that day were headed for a meal of baked beans that night. LOL)

Then route 12 down the coast of North Carolina, all the way to Ocracoke. Just so out of the way, so uncluttered, so much to absorb, so relaxing.

Lifey who loved all the ferry rides
