  1. Default Death Valley to Yosemite to Las Vegas

We're planning on making a change to our DV trip next week(first week of October). Instead of staying Saturday night in Beatty, NV we want to head out to to the west side of Yosemite and also see Mono Lake.

Google map has us taking CA-190 to CA-395 thru Owens Valley and it estimates the trip to be about 5 hours.

After Staying in Yosemite on Saturday night, we'll drive back to Las Vegas, which is abouta 7 hour drive by this route.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on both the accuracy of the drive time and especially the route back to Vegas(any back country roads in that route?)

Default Is this the original November trip?

I thought your trip was the first week in November?

I think I could be lost -- I can't really follow the trip routing logic between these two threads -- but I can tell you that if you take any online mapping estimate and add about 30% more time -- it will be pretty accurate.

I'm doing Vegas + DV in Oct and San Fran + Yosemite a month later. BTW, I'm no longer doing Death Valley in novemeber due to Tioga Pass being closed and lack of time.

I thought it was worth it to go see Mono Lake and Tioga Pass Rd because it'll most likely be closed in November..

Default buildling a more complicated mousetrap

Tioga Pass does close for the winter, and that does usually happen at some point in November. There's just no way of knowing exactly when that will be. Obviously, the later you go, the more likely it will be closed.

However, your current plans seem very odd to me. If you are going to drive Tioga Pass, then you'll end up on the other side of the Sierras. I guess you don't have to drive the whole thing, and you could find some point where you could do a U-Turn, but if you're going to go that far, I would think you'd want to keep going.

Based on your original thread, it sounded like you had 6 days, which would still give you a pretty good amount of time to see this region.

Are you currently living in Las Vegas and/or how much time do you now have for this trip(s)?

Like Michael's post above, I can't quite understand the reasoning behind these two trip choices. Perhaps you could share with us where you are starting from for both trips and how long you have for each and where each trip is to end. Then I know we can offer you some tips.
