Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum. The Verizon Wireless network has the "best" over-all footprint. T-Mobile, is limited in larger measure to central city core areas. AT&T & Sprint would be the second best network at the current time.

I have experienced excellent coverage with AT&T across the country. Unfortunately, AT&T and T-Mobile are our only GSM options, Verizon and Sprint are CDMA and don't use sim cards, you would have to buy a whole prepaid phone. From what I understand, T-Mobile has poor coverage outside of cities and away from major Interstate highways.
