  1. Default traveling MD to NV

My husband and I are going to take a 26 ft. Penske truck with our household things from Maryland to Nevada and can't decide on the best route. Does anyone have a suggestions which would be better, the I 70 or the I 40 route? We were told the one has bad road conditions, the other goes through tornado areas. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!

Both of those routes go through areas that have heightened chances for tornadoes through the Summer. You will need to keep alert of the weather, but since it impossible to predict the weather, I would instead answer these questions:

Where in Nevada is your destination?
Are you looking for the fastest way, or is a more leisurely drive an option?
Is there something along the way that you've always wanted to see, and this trip would give you an opportunity to do so?

It's been awhile since I've been on either route, but I don't recall there being significant bad portions of either one. I do remember I-70 was being rebuilt in Kansas, though.
