    Default Vegas to Kanab Utah

Hi has anyone travelled the 15 from Las Vegas to St George and onto the 9 to Kanab if so is it worth the trip. we are travelling to the states in september and hiring an RV and I am still trying to plan our route.

From Kanab we will be going on the 89 to Page and onto Monument Valley from there.

    Thanks

hi there, the '15' is a straight forward drive but i guess it's down to what you want to do and the time you have to do it in.the bonus going this way would be if you have time to stop over and explore zion n.p, a wonderfull place. there is a nice site in virgin, called the virgin river resort or there is watchman campground just in the entrance of zion which is great as you can park up and take advantage of the free shuttle bus system. after zion you drive up the mount carmel highway which is a very scenic drive across checkaboard mesa.the road twists and climbs it's way up but is fine in an r.v.,however you will have to pay a fee [[it was $15 in october]and wait for an escort [or untill they have stopped traffic entering the other end]to get through the tunnel as you need to drive right down the middle.having got this far it would be a shame not to continue to bryce canyon, fantastic views of the rock formations, from the easily accessable viewpoints
if you want to see a bit of this area it can be found in my road trip report i'm doing at the moment.
hope you have a great trip!

Thank you both for your replies.

Wow gommy your post was so interesting and brought back a lot of memories of some of the places we saw 14yrs ago.

We can't wait to get on the road again in september. Which holiday company did you book with. We have done ours through Complete North America and have found them quite reasonable.

Ukcraig thanks for your post lots to look at there too.

I-15 crosses through the Virgin River Gorge and it is quite a sight. If you would like a nice side trip through a section of the "Arizona Strip" (it parallels I-15) get off the highway at Exit 122 (Mesquite) and proceed north on the side road (you will rejoin the highway at exit 8 (Littlefield) -- this older highway is still in great shape, but it weaves through the badlands and the scenery looks like the wild west -- I often imagine myself on a stagecoach while driving this short detour ~ 10 miles or so.

Like Gommy says the route through Zion should not be missed.

we used a small family run company called "graner family r.v. rentals" that are based near san fran.they were very reasonable and offered a very personal, friendly and helpfull service, they themselves are keen road trippers, top notch!
