Default Summer 08 trip - does it sound OK?

    Hi

We've booked our first trip to the West Coast of USA and are busy planning our trip.
    We are a family of 4 - the 2 boys are 15 and 12
What I'm wondering is if we are planning too much in our scedule. We want to see loads while we're over!

Day 1 - arrive San Francisco
    Day 2 - SF
    Day 3 - SF
Day 4 - Drive SF to Yosemite and stay overnight Curry Village
Day 5 - Drive Yosemite(tioga pass road) to Mammoth/Bishop area for 2 nights(possibly with a visit to Bodie on our way)
    Day 6 - (July 4th)
Day 7 - Drive to Death Valley, overnight in Stovepipe Wells
Day 8 - Drive towards Monument Valley - probably stop around Page for an overnight stay(may go furthur)
Day 9 - Monument Valley and overnight in Mexican Hat
Day 10 - Drive to Crand Canyon and overnight in Thunderbird Lodge
Day 11 - Drive to Las Vegas for 4 nights before heading back to the UK

Would like to see sequoia trees-maybe Mariposa? Is that on the SF to Yosemite route?
We have still to book hotels for July 3rd/4th. My husband likes the idea of Independence Day in Independence! Or do you think Bishop or Mammoth would be better?
Our longest day of driving is Death Valley to Page-about 8 hours I think. We will probably drive till we've had enough - the closer we get to Monument Valley the better (not pre-booking hotel for that night)
Most other days are 2-4 hours driving.
    Any suggestions?

It is not on the direct route - if you are taking CA-120 all the way. You would have to head South on CA-49 at Moccasin.

The trip from Death Valley to Page is probably 8 1/2 - 9 hours - which is about the limit for an enjoyable day on the road. The trip from Mexican Hat to the Thunderbird Lodge is about 5 hours.

I suggest getting the pre-book for the July 4th day - it may be very hard to find a place that day by just winging in.

    Default 4th

It doesn't perfectly fit into your current schedule, but I might try to get into Las Vegas for the night of July 4th. I think that could be a real experience.

However, if you are looking for something a little more low key, Celebrating Independence in Independence isn't a bad idea at all!

I think going to Vegas for July 4th would add too many miles to our trip.
We wouldn't have time to see Death Valley properly and would have to backtrack to there after July 4th then head past Vegas again going to Monument Valley.
I'm thinking Bishop or Independence for July 4th. They don't look too far apart so even if we stay in Bishop we can go to Independence for the parade and stuff.
