  1. Default PHX, AZ to Orlando, FL

After scanning these threads for twenty minutes, I am totally amazed.

    Here's the deal:
A friend and I are applying for internships in Orlando, Florida. If/When we get accepted, we are faced with taking a roadtrip across the southern part of the U.S. either in mid-May or mid-August. As psyched as we both are about this, neither of us have done it before, and there is a tiny clinging feeling of aprehension that seems to stay with both of us.

Because we're in such preliminary stages of planning, I guess all my questions are fairly basic.

How many miles are we looking at between Phoenix, AZ and Orlando Florida?

And is it plausible to get from point A to point B in five days driving oh... Maybe 12 to 16 hours a day?

And one more thing: Is it true that when you drive from one end of Texas to the other that it's possible to lose hope of the state ever ending?

And on top of everything, we need to go on as slim a budget as possible because neither of us have money busting out of our wallets.

And lastly, we want to drive, because she has a car and we don't see the point of leaving a perfectly good car in AZ for five to eight months when we could put it to good use in FL.

Plus any other information that can be offered up would be greatly appreciated. :D

You can look out mileage estimates on anyone of a dozen free online mapping programs. Here are some of the ones we have tested. But, by the most direct route the total distance is about 2140 miles.Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum!

Yeah, that is about right --- but you can probably drive the entire distance in five days, driving only 8 hours per day or so.

The only people who make that claim are the ones who have never looked beyond their own hoods. Texas is a very interesting state -- just put "Texas" into the search engine on the left side of this page, click RTA and see how many articles we have published about traveling in Texas! Also here is an A to Z list for Texas.

Here are some ideas about budgeting for road trips. Here is a good place to resume your reading about possible routes....

    Happy Planning!
