Default Roadtrip in RV from NY to CA summer 2008.. need help!

    Hi there,

Four of my friends and i are looking to hire an RV and drive from NY to CA summer 2008.. we have 6 weeks to do this in, and plan to see sights and such, maybe ending up staying in southern ca for the last week or so.

My question is, can you hire an RV in NY and leave it in CA? I tried looking on a few hire sites and it doesnt look possible?

Any info that you think maybe needed for our trip will be GREATLY appreciated!!

    thanks ever so much,
    Jonathan.

That is a great length of time. Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! One-way rentals are the norm -- but they are expensive, due to the one-way drop off fees.

Here are some resources for you:

An overview article about renting a RV
A checklist that you ought to take with you when you pick up a RV
    An article about boondocking
Some tips about the types of campgrounds available
An article about national monuments versus national parks
Some RV-related book resources for planning
A book that details some things you ought to know about RV rentals
Some of the maps we use
Some of our recommended Guide books

    Default Ask!

The advice I always give when it comes to one-way drop offs is to phone the company and ask. It may be that someone else wants to do the reverse journey ending a couple of days before you arrive and they are faced with getting their vehicle back to it original depot so there could be potential for a deal. This sort of thing is something that you don't see advertised generally but I did notice that Cruise America are advertising this sort of thing on their site. There is a very small selection on there currently but it gives you reason to phone and ask without feeling awkward for doing so as some people might...
