  1. Default British roadtripper for 10 days

Hi guys, I'm from the UK and planning on a little roadtrip in December '07.

    1. I'll be departing from LAX 6th and have to return by the 16th. no idea how far I can travel or what to see and where ... any ideas?

    2. I'm 23 years old and would like to hire a car from LAX, are there any well known cheap hire companies for young drivers?

    3. Is it possible to see Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon within this time frame?

I'd be grateful for any general tips or ideas for places to see.

    Thanks in advance!

    Default Welcome!

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!

In ten days, you could travel 5000 miles, if you really wanted to, but I think you'd be better off doing a Southwest loop tour.

It looks like you already have a couple of ideas of where you want to go - and yes, you can certainly get to both Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon within the time you have specified. You could also head South into Phoenix, over to Death Valley, or even out to New Mexico - Santa Fe and Albuquerque are just a couple of places you could spend a day or two.

How much time were you planning on spending in Las Vegas, and are you planning on spending any time in Los Angeles, or just flying into the airport and heading out from there?

Generally, renting a car under age 25 results in some added fees.

    Default Dash or Dawdle?

As Tim suggests, you can see a lot in a short amount of time, or you can see less and spend some quality time at each place. Either way works, it just depends on your preference.

LA to Las Vegas is between 4.5 and 5 hours, depending on traffic.

Las Vegas to the south rim of the Grand Canyon is also about 4.5 hours.

That leaves a lot of time and a whole range of scenic options open. Besides what Tim mentioned, you could also go north into Utah to see the National Parks there, and/or spend some time in Colorado. Then there is the California coastline, or San Francisco, or Yosemite.

Too many choices to go into until you provide some direction.

Regardless, December should be a good month to explore the Southwest.
