    Default It's a Start

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

Two or three days is certainly not a ton of time to spend in Colorado, but if that's all you have then some of the places you should most try to see as you work your way southwestward are Rocky Mountain National Park, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, the Million Dollar Highway, and Mesa Verde National Park. The last will set you up for the short detour northwest on CO-41, UT-262 and UT-163 for a drive down through Monument Valley on your way to the Canyon.

I 100% agree with the above suggestions. The million dollar highway is a must. In Ouray, take a day jeep ride up the mountain passes. I highly recommend the tour company SOA (Switzerland of America) and their premier tour "Black Bear/Imogene".Personally, I would spend only two days at Grand Canyon, and then move along. There is SO much more to see in this area of Arizona, Southern Utah, Colorado. Don't forget about Zion National Park and all of the other Southern Utah national park options. You won't have time for all of course.

    Default Durango... Silverton Scenic Railroad.

Howdy, This in one of the premier steam railroad rides in the country. they run year round, though the winter schedule is shorter.

    Winter train is special too!

Durango is a nice, modernish western town with good shops and restaurants, but Silverton, which you can drive to on your way to or from Ouray, is a classic old silver mining town. It , too has become more tourist-friendly since the mines have closed, but the feel of the old town is still there.

The tour of the local mines in both Ouray and Silverton are quite good if you have extra time and/or interest.

    Have a great trip,
