  1. Default Florida to Washington DC

We posted on this site a few weeks ago regarding our trip from the East coast to West and got some really great advice, thanks.

The first part of our trip actually takes us from the space coast in Florida to Pennsylvania which initially we were going to just do as quickly as possible however we now have more time and do not need to be in Pennsylvania now until Tuesday next week.

The question we have is what are the best places for us to stop and see having already planned to stop in Savannah on the way, Washington DC is also a place we have planned to visit but just wondered where else would be interesting/fun/scenic and good for hiking?

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Default Hiking in the East

There are countless hiking options along your route - what are looking for in more detail? Something a little less strenuous, or something more challenging? At this time of year the humidity can make even the easier hikes challenging at times. Are you looking for significant elevation changes, or are you more into flatter hikes/nature walks?

You're right about the humidity!! Unfortunately we got caught in a really bad 12 hour storm in Savannah so have ditched any hiking ideas, but thank you for your interest! We are in a dry hotel in SC and heading for Washington DC tomorrow - any suggestions on nice (hopefully dry) camp grounds there? Any ideas on what kind of weather we can expect? We're hoping for dry rather than wet...
    Thank you!

    Default DC campgrounds

As you may know, there aren't many in the DC area. The best developed, commercial RV park we know of is north of DC called Cherry Hill, 800 801 6449.

If you are looking for a tent camping kind of place I found Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, VA not too far, but far enough, from Dulles Airport. It seems to get high user ratings. (703) 471-5415

    Check-em out.
