  1. Default Motorcycle Trip in Sept., NY to Utah

My husband and I are planning a 3 week motorcycle trip, starting Sept. 1 from the NYC area, and making our way through South Dakota, Yellowstone, and hopefully, to the Bryce-Zion area. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as scenic routes, areas not to be missed, and advice? We have extensively traveled along the east coast, but first timers out west. Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.

    Default Lincoln Highway

You should try to take the Lincoln Highway for some of the way for a real slice of Americana.

Default Deep into the Wild West

Welcome to the RTA forum ScubaSue,

Then, you have to stop by the Gateway Arch in St. Louis which will mark your official passage into the wild west. You can follow the path of the thousands emigrants who took the Oregon Trail between 1841 and 1866 to reach the West from the Western Trails Museum in Council Bluffs, Iowa to some historical sites in Nebraska and Wyoming like Chimney Rock, Jailhouse Rock, Register Cliffs and Scottsbluff National Monument.

In South Dakota, you can visit a couple of fun tourist traps like the Corn Palace in Mitchell or Wall Drug in Wall. Of course, you won't want to miss the Black Hills and the inevitable Mt Rushmore! Crazy Horse Memorial is just a short drive away. My own personal favourite parks in that State are Wind Cave and Badlands National Parks.

Since you'll probably be driving through Utah from north to south, you should take a few hours to stretch your legs at Arches National Park and try one of their light hiking trail like the one leading to Delicate Arch. Moab is a picturesque town just a few miles down the road and has many art galleries and nice motels. Further south, between Bryce and Zion, you'll probably drive right beside the Pink Coral Sand Dunes State Park which is also worth a stop.

    Happy planning!
