  1. Default Connecticut to California!

My girlfriend and I are planning a cross country road trip. Can anyone share ideas, tips, what to see, where to go, and where is that hidden treasure of a place, etc?.....We've got a list of places and things we want to see, but I'm hoping I can get more ideas from this forum. Many thanks!

Default One Size Does Not Fit All

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

There simply is no single 'best' and very few 'hidden treasures' in this day of ubiquitous advertising. Most importantly, I'm sure that many of the things I would see and do on such a trip would bore you to tears. So perhaps if you would share your list and your interests, we could help you out without either making suggestions that will waste your time or repeating things you've already decided on. It would also help to know your general route and how much time you have for this journey.

if your looking to really explore america and just see parts of the country you otherwise never might, try the lincoln hwy. it starts in NYC and you can pretty much go to San Fransisco on it only taking a few small detours as the highway nolonger is continuious... do some research on the lincoln highway and you will see where it takes you... if thats your cup of tea then you will be greatly rewarded

Ever since I read this guide book on the Lincoln Highway, I have wanted to do it. Thanks for the suggestion and welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! Have you done this route yet?

    Default Crossing the Continent

The time needed to cover this distance will dictate how much of the country you'll be able to see. I have found over the years there is an art to keep the mood of the trip up, which involves mixing up the roads being traveled on, the places being seen, and the people met.

The hidden treasures are usually not even known by the locals - I found a beautiful place thanks to some Fig Newton crumbs once, a place that people who live a few miles away didn't even know about (including me). That was just by taking a side road.
