Thread: NYC to Vegas!!

  1. Default NYC to Vegas!!

    Folks,

Myself and some friends are planning on having our own "Cannonball Run" - well sort of! Anway, we are looking to head from New York to Vegas next April/May. Planning on a 10 day trip with a stop over and booze up each night.

So, anyone out there done this before?

Anyone with any tips on routes etc?

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

    Cheers

    Default Be more specific please!

Hi Bevereeno and welcome to the RTA Forums,

Anyone with any tips on routes etc?
You sure don't give us a lot to start from! What are your interests? The fastest route would probably be I-80, I-70 and I-15 but are you looking for byways and scenic roads? Cultural attractions? Historical? Any nightlife preferences?

Las Vegas is one of the most popular destination on this very forum. Just use the "Search" function to find more specific information and browse through similar threads. One of the co-founder of RoadTripAmerica also manages a website about Las Vegas, you might want to take a look.

Default Less Fun Than You'd Think

New York to Vegas is over 2500 miles. Even covering 600 miles a day, it will take you at least 4 days to get there and 4 days back, leaving you only two days in Las Vegas. We offer a number of tips on making Speed Runs. Note that none of those tips is to "booze up each night". The fact is that if you are serious about making this trip, you simply will not have the time for such pursuits and you can't afford either the late morning starts or hang-overs they would entail.

  4. Default NYC to Vegas!!

    Hi, thanks for the replies!

Sorry about the lack of detail...so

The trip is planned for 10 days - that's 10 days to get from NY to Vegas. We'll fly back to NY from Vegas and leave the cars in Vegas.

As for sights....its a group of late 20's males so 'traditional' sight seeing is not high on the list. Nightlife, however, is! We haven't planned the route so very open to suggestions from those that know.

Also, there will be 2 (atleast) per car so driving will take turns. That way early starts isn't a big deal as one of the two will take it easy in the bars the night before. Next night its the drivers turn to hit the booze.

    All opinions/ideas welcome!

    Default Quite Different!

Ten days one way is quite a different animal than 10 days round trip. You can plan your trip around hitting some of the great cities along the way, such as Cleveland, Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver and Vail. You can also stop in college towns, usually good sources of night life, even in the summer. Some of these might include State College (PA), Ann Arbor (MI), South Bend (IN), Columbia (MO), Lawrence (KS), Manhattan (KS) and Boulder (CO). One final resource: Brew Pubs, besides having unique beers, often also serve up live entertainment.

    Default Midwest nightlife

    Hi again!

    Nightlife, however, is!
The Green Mill Club in Chicago is legendary for its live jazz music and famous because of all the celebrities who've been there since it's opening at the beginning of the 20th century.

The Apartment on Lincoln Ave. also in Chicago is a fun dance club in a former apartment. DJ's spin mostly hip-hop, techno and dance. There's also a pub downstairs for beer lovers.

If there are a couple of blues fans among the group, stop by the Grand Emporium on Main St. in Kansas City. I believe they have live music almost every night and it is considered to be one of the best blues club in the US.

The Blueberry Hill in St. Louis is also an interesting side stop where you can get a decent meal and listen to live bands in the Elvis Room.

    Have fun!
