  1. Default moving truck routes from KC to Sacramento

I have done some searching and gotten a few opinions here and there, but for anyone who has driven a large rented moving truck (22', diesel) towing a car carrier on either I-70, I-80 or I-40 , what are your opinions about the difficulty of each route?

I really want to take 70 because I've driven it in a passenger car before and love the landscape, but I realize driving a huge truck and towing a car will change the experience...

We aren't really in any particular time constraints.

We are starting from Wichita and stopping off in KC before continuing on our trip, so going back south to I-40 would mean a bit of an annoying back track...but on a long journey like that I guess a few hours doesn't really matter.

    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Default I-80 has the least differential in grades

Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! I-80 has the least number of inclines between KC and Reno, but it is a long steep grade over the Sierras. I-40 has several grade changes as does I-70, but all of these highways are built to interstate standards and so your rental truck will have relatively little problem. For that reason, I would choose I-70 and enjoy the views that your slower pace (because of the grades) will require.

I was hoping to take I-70 to I-15 up to SLC, then take 80 into Sacramento...I'm assuming this will be fine...although you mentioned 80 over the sierras is difficult..

Default It is not that it is difficult

Not really, not after having done I-70 in the Colorado Rockies and over the San Rafael Swell in Utah, it's just that Donner Summit is the only pass of any significance on I-80.
