Default Out of the Ordinary Hotels/Motels

    Hello,

I am planning a roadtrip for the end of the summer starting in Kingston, Ontario Canada and travelling down to Savannah. But I can find very little information on crazy motels. I would really love to stay somewhere that has a theme, or is a little offbeat. Basically, accomodation with character! If anyone knows of any places that are somewhere between Canada and Savannah, I would love to hear about them! Thanks!

    Default Crazy Motels

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

As it happens, NPR ran an interview a few years ago on this very subject. Probably the best recommendation I took away from that bit of radio was this web site which lists a number of "funky", typically older, motels throughout the US. This site has not been reviewed by RTA, and I can't vouch for it personally - although it certainly lists the classics like the Blue Swallow in Tucumcari, NM, but it is certainly worth a look if you're seeking something off-beat.

Thanks so much! That information helps a lot!

And if anyone knows of any theme hotels/motels I would love to hear about them too!

    Default Google is your friend!

I just googled "unique hotels" and came up with several websites and a few articles devoted to this topic. You might read through these to see if anything pops up along your route. Since I have no experience with these websites or the area you're traveling, I won't make any recommendations but I hope this helps you find something. Best wishes!

    Default out of the ordinary

Savannah has lots of inns, very nice, small, pricey. Most are very unusual. Lots of people rent quaint, funky,or haunted houses downtown right in the thick of the historic district, You'd have to do some web browsing. As for funky downtown Savannah motels it would have to be The Alamo. Tybee, 15 minutes east of Savannah has great inns as well. Atlantis Inn on Tybee is great. Enjoy your trip!
