how does the ranking system work?
I see that some people are day-trippers, while others are moderators or gurus. How do you get promoted?

    Default Post Count

The ranking system works by number of posts.
Essentially, the more posts you have, the higher the ranking.

The level of Road Trip Advisor is awarded based on peer review - all of the active RoadTrip Advisors take a vote. This comes about once a forum member hits 150 posts.

Becoming a Moderator is by invite.

A Guru is someone with 1000 posts. You will see that our members that have achieved this status definitely know a lot about being on the road, and the title is justified.
