  1. Default First road trip, Las Vegas > Atlanta, GA. Things to do on the way?

So I will be driving from Las Vegas, NV (home) to Greenville, SC (intern) in a few weeks and I'm having trouble finding a good source for things to do on the way. It won't be a rushed trip, and I will be traveling with my girlfriend. We'd like to make it a sort of a vacation driving only a few hours every day. Maybe take 1 - 1.5 weeks.

Here is a list of cities I will pass through. I will take the I-40 for 1/2 of the way along with the US-78.

    Flagstaff, AZ
    Albuquerque, NM
    Amarillo, TX
    Oklahoma City, OK
    Fort Smith, AK
    Little Rock, AK
    Memphis, TN
    Tupelo, MS
    Birmingham, AL
    Atlanta, GA

I'm willing to take a few detours so long as they aren't way off (1-2 hrs) if there is something interesting to see. Anything really interesting? Oh yeah, I'm a big fan of food, so thing such as great roadside restaurants, BBQ, fried candy bars, and other food I won't find anywhere else in the country is a plus.

What should be a reasonable time to expect to arrive there? Google says it's 1 day 4 hrs of driving.

    Thanks for your help.

ps. I live in Las Vegas, so don't need suggestions for LV

Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum!

Well, there are lots of resources here to assist with your planning. Since I-40 runs roughly along the old track of historic Route 66 -- look at this site for some ideas of places to stop and explore. Flagstaff has some great murals and Cadillac Ranch will be right off the highway. I would also suggest looking at this list of travelogs and cruise through our recommended road trip guidebooks, especially this one, that I use when looking for roadside grub. Here are a few roadside Americana books.
