Well if the sky is the limit as far a SF goes you should stay at the Westin St. Francis.

SF is quite a bit north of Yosemite, so you may want to consider hitting Yosemite on your way north, and then cut across. As far as 395 goes it is absolutely in credible, there is even a ghost town called Bodie off 395 right around Tahoe and Donner Pass.

There are tons of little towns with accommodations. When I last went to Yosemite I stayed about 30 miles outside the park in Miraposa. Nice little town with not a whole lot going on.

After Yosemite you can stay on 395 an head north it will eventually cross the state line of Nevada and take you through Reno so you can place a couple of bets. There is also the Moonlite Bunny Ranch if you're looking for some good entertainment.

The good news is that passes over the Sierra Nevada mountains will probably be open for your trip -- lots of miles, but it looks like you will have enough time. Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! Here is a list of threads you ought to look at and READ to get an idea of all of the amazing things you can stop at and do. Also, be sure to look at the bottom of this page!

No, it is a popular time for Death Valley -- it will be around 110 degrees -- still quite balmy by DV standards.

Absolutely gorgeous -- while we recommend the drive through Death Valley -- another option is this route through the White Mountains and a visit to the Bristlecone Forest! Here is a field report from the ghost town of Bodie mentioned above.

We will, we have another experienced member from Florida -- but always happy to have more. When you drive from Las Vegas to Aspen -- you will be on one of my favorite highways through the San Rafael Swell (another side trip would be this one).
