    Default connecticut to california solo

    hey guys so im new at this whole road trip thing so if im totally off in my calculations and assumptions let me know! as you can probably tell from the title, im planning on taking a big long road trip from west hartford, ct to california and back again for about a month, june 25th-july 27th but it gets very complicated here. ill try and explain how ive planned the trip so far in as little space as possible:

    day 1: west hartford, ct to Bear, de
    day 2: there to richmond, va
    day 3: stay in richmond area with friends for day
    day 4: there to greenville, sc
    day 5: there to nashville, tn
    day 6: stay there with friends for day
    day 7: there to dallas, tx
    day 8: there to austin, tx
    day 9: there to guadalupe natl pk
    day 10: spend day in park and carlsbad caverns
    day 11: there to phoenix, az
    day 12: there to las vegas, nv
    day 13: there to bakersfield, ca
    day 14: there to yosemite natl pk
    day 15: there to lake tahoe, nv/ca
    day 16: there to san fransisco, ca
    day 17: spend day in city
    day 18: there to los angeles, ca
    day 19-20: los angeles, ca
    day 21: there to sand diego, ca
    day 21-23: sand diego, ca
    day 24: there to tuscon, az
    day 25: there to midland, tx
    day 26: there to dallas, tx
    day 27: there to montgomery, al
    day 28: there to charleston, sc
    day 29: there to richmond, va
    day 30: there to home

    i realize that its a very long and probably undoable trip but so far ive figured that since im doing it alone (cause i need it for myself haha) ill need about $900 in gas (i drive a hyundai elantra gets 31 mpg) for about a 8800 mile trip; ill be staying with friends most nights and only need a place to stay about 10 days out of the whole trip so about $400 in hostels/motels; ill have food at friends and i dont like to eat that much so i put about $200 for food; and about $300 in spending money for parks, places, things to do etc...;

    am i being totally unrealistic here or is this close to what need for a budget? is this trip even possible? i also could use some suggestions on things to do and see and if i can do them by my self (like hiking in bear country would not be good alone)...any suggestions and criticism is welcome. thanks!

    Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum!

    I dunno, if you use our free fuel cost calculator tool, the cost seems much closer to $1135 at the predicted fuel prices of this summer!
    ill have food at friends and i dont like to eat that much so i put about $200 for food; and about $300 in spending money for parks, places, things to do etc...;
    Generally, we suggest a budget of $100 to $160 per day to cover expenses if you are careful (this would equal at least $3000) Here are some more tips to reduce these costs and here is an excellent thread that discusses this in more detail.
