Thread: Going to Vegas

  1. Default Going to Vegas

HI. I'm 23 from Los Angeles, CA. I just joined the forum. Well I'm going to Vegas tomorrow. Should be fun. I haven't been in four years. I was just wondering if there was anything really exciting, I must see, on the trip there. If any one has suggestions please let me know.

Default I just returned from there this morning...

The weather has been beautiful! Do as much as you can outside.

If you haven't seen Red Rock Canyon, do that. It doesn't take long if you drive the scenic route, but you have the opportunity to get out and hike. Mt. Charleston is nice, also. There is still snow on the peaks. We saw two mule deer about two thirds of the way up, and a mountain lion was spotted this past Friday.

There are always the strip shows outside (I'm talking Bellagio fountains, Mirage volcano, etc) that are free. In the past I have checked out the Secret Garden at Mirage. It is pretty reasonable to get in and you can spend a nice afternoon there.

Spamalot is now playing at the Wynn, and I have heard good things about Love, the Cirque du Soleil/Beatles show at the Mirage.

A lot has changed since the last time we were there, about this time last year, so it will really have changed for you, being four years!

    Good luck and enjoy!

We stayed in a penthouse suite at the Mandalay Bay this time. Very nicwe room, but the beach was very crowded. Hard to find a chair and we ended up just stuffing our shoes and shirts in a corner.

'Vegas is always fun! Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum -- I meant to get this post made yesterday, but... Anyway on your next trip -- the Kelso Visitor's Center for the Mojave National Preserve is a nice side-trip from Baker.

Lots of new clubs in town -- some of the best ones, don't really get going until about 4:00 am (long past my bedtime) I saw Fashionistas last night (it plays most nights at the Empire Ballroom across from the Monte Carlo) it is an odd sort of show -- part ballet and part soft porn -- lot of promise but doesn't really deliver that well. If you like Elvis -- Steve Connolly is one of the best here in town. For me the most exciting part of Las Vegas is the ongoing development. Nothing ever stays the same here. Since you were here, we have had five casino implosions -- Castaways, Bourbon Steet, the Boardwalk, the old parking garage at the Wynn and the Stardust. Here is a pretty cool photo compilation of the last 14 implosions.

Here is a recent field report about the roller coasters in town

Hope you have/had a good trip.

We have recently seen Spamalot, Love and Phantom -- all are very entertaining. Spamalot and Love are both excellent. Be sure to stop by "Revolution" the bar near the theater of Love -- amazing technology in the bar tables allows one to write images in the air, sorta.

Daytime shows (you can often get free passes by joining the Harrahs frequent user club) that I always enjoy are Ronn Lucas at the Rio and Mac King at Harrahs.
