  1. Default Naples to San Diego

My husband and I are moving out to San Diego and wanted to make a trip out of the long drive cross country. We have no limit on time...we just want to see some of the sights along the way. I really want to see some of the national parks out west. Is this really unreasonable and out of the way? Most of the searches I have done put us heading straight across I-10.
    Thanks!

Wow! I wish I could make that claim! Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum!

That would be the most direct, but if your really have an unlimited time window and want to..
make a trip out of the long drive cross country.
We could certainly come up with a trip route that introduces you to dozens of national parks and national monuments. But before we get started -- how much time do you really have? And do you have a budget in mind? I can think of a trip that would take about three months.... to cross the country. I bet that is longer than you were expecting?

For a shorter adventure -- you could use I-10 to I-49 to I-20 to US-287 and check out Carlsbad Caverns NP and then zig-zag up to the Colorado Rockies and the Million Dollar highway and then west to the Utah national parks like Bryce, Capitol Reef, Zion and then Las Vegas and then San Diego. This would take 2-3 weeks depending upon how much time you spend in the national parks.

  3. Default Thanks

Thanks Mark. Two- Three weeks is not unreasonable. We are moving out there because my husband is being reactivated into the Marine Corps. He is planning on taking a month off to get out there and get moved in. But we aren't bringing anything but ourselves and our dog. We've been to Vegas and my husband has no desire to go back (unfortunately) so we could cut out a day or two there and add some on to the parks. How do I find out more info?

Yikes! I hope that is a good thing for both of you. (Thanks for his service)

    Good plan!

That is too bad. We chose Las Vegas as the hub HQ for RTA because of its proximity to the five national parks and a dozen or more regional natural wonders all within one day's travel of our offices....

You can use the search box to look up posts on any of the parks, you can look at the bottom of this page for more ideas. What kinds of info are you seeking?
