  1. Default Looking for family Lodge/Ranches out west...

First time post, but I have been reading quite a bit.

Anyway... I am looking to take the family on a two week road trip this summer. Tentatively we are going to hit Zion, Bryce, Page, and the Grand Canyon.... however, none of this is set in stone.

What I would like to do is find a nice family ranch or two near some of the sites and spend a couple of days there to break up the driving.

Any one have any recommendations about nice family dude ranch type things, or all-inclusive ranches with fun activites for the kids?

Like I said, we don't have to stick to the places above... I am open to ANYTHING... Montana, Colorado, etc.

Thank you in advance for your help.

It is always wonderful when a new member looks around some first, Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum. Off-hand I don't know of any dude ranches that I would recommend -- ranching has been a part of my family tradition for 100+ years and so I have never stayed at a working ranch "for fun". There is a powerpoint presentation that you or your family might enjoy from one of the family brandings in 2005 on the second page of that field report (for some odd reason, I can't get the direct link to work from here).

Here is a field report that might be helpful of this area.

I will do some looking around for a dude ranch in the area.

Our favorite is the C Lazy U in Colorado.
Pricy,, but one of the best.
We went on the strength of the American Auto Club recomendation:

There are plenty of others for less money:

As a pretty good rule of thumb, the more money, the better the experience.

Thank you both for the info.

I found the Zion Ponderosa outside of Zion that looks interesting. Also, looks like the Red CLiffs Lodge near Moab has some decent family activities (Horseback Riding, Hummer Tours, Rafting, etc.)

If anyone else has recommendations of fun places like that to stay, I'd love to hear them.

    Thanks again!

Lots of canoeing, kayaking and hiking opportunities on the west coast -- Perhaps the Stanford Inn would appeal in Mendocino? This would not be the cowboy holiday -- but it is an alternative. Another would be attend one of the family climbing schools in either Yosemite or Joshua Tree NP.
