  1. Default Great tool to track the weather along your road trip

Not sure if this is a repost, but I found this great link. It lets you enter the locations and times you will be passing through those locations. It then returns the corresponding forecast. At the bottom, it gives an added bonus of the weekly forcast for your final destination.

    Default Great Tool

Thanks for the Link! I just quickly tried it out, and it is certainly the best single highway-specfic weather forecast I've seen.

I expect I will be using it frequently!

Default That is worth an article

    ArcticS,

Wow, this is really improved from their first tool -- I will probably write about this one.

    Thanks,

I didn't realize there was an earlier version of this tool. It's great, but I still see a little room for improvement.

Now what they need is a similar site for traffic conditions.

    Default The 511 system

The 511 system (road condition reporting network) has been deployed (more or less) throughout the lower 48 states. I have used it a few times, and I would rate it a 2-Tire level at the current time. In some states, it works great -- Colorado and Oregon -- come to mind. But in others, it has not received the funding or day-to-day support it needs to be truly operational. Here is a link that you can use to access the 511 system in any US state and here is the page I use as a short-cut to road condition pages.

This is one site I have been using for a while This link is a sample route.

I use this site primarily for all my weather related needs now.

Nope, thats not me. Someone else's mashup. Found it while I was big on making some maps with the API a little while back though. Been using it ever since. I find it great because it gives a lot more details on local weather by using multiple sources.

Are you on the Google Maps API forum as well? Always great to meet a fellow coder :)

Just part of the on-going R&D around here -- mostly read both Yahoo Maps and Google Maps API to keep track of what other folks are trying to do.

Here is another "mash-up" using Google Maps API that is really interesting to look at from time to time.
