  1. Default Driving to Las Vegas from SF via Yosemite

    Hi there,

We will be driving from SF to Las Vegas at the beginning of April, spending one night on the way. We had originally planned to stop overnight at Mammoth Lakes but have changed our minds after finding out that the Tioga Pass will be closed in April. We still want to visit Yosemite, so can anyone recommend the best route and where to stay overnight, obviously we want to get as far as possible but without driving for too many hours. Also, is it possible to visit Death Valley on the way to Vegas if you are coming along the southern route from Bakersfield? Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully received.

    Thanks.

Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! You have asked a question about the route most often discussed here on this Forum! At last count there were about 2700 threads dealing with possible route choices. You can read some of them by using the search function or looking at the bottom of this page. To get started here is a link (look at the second post in that thread) that will provide a starter pack of 5-6 routes.

your choices are many and varied -- but essentially they rely on either going north or south to get over the mountains. If Sonora Pass is open, (it could be as early as April) it is a stunning road over the Sierras or you could use either US-50 or even I-80 and stay at Lake Tahoe or even Mammoth Lakes.

Yes, and if you look at some of those threads listed above you can find some great routes and things to check out as you go!

    Happy Planning!
