    Default Great - But

    Welcome Back.

Sounds like a great trip, Except... The road "across Yosemite down to Las Vegas" is closed due to snow and will remain closed until at least sometime in May. There are a lot of threads dealing with the general area you're going to be traveling in, and here are four of them to get you started:

    Thread 1
    Thread 2
    Thread 3
    Thread 4

After you've had a look at those and thought about what you may want to see and whether you'd rather go around the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the north (through Lake Tahoe) or to the south (through Bakersfield), please come on back for more specific information.

Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! Roadtrips are always a "trip of a lifetime" and I am sure you will have a grand adventure. One problem with your current route is that mountain pass on the east side of Yosemite National Park (Tioga Pass) will still be snow-bound when you are here. You can certainly visit Yosemite on your way to Las Vegas, but you will need to either go to Lake Tahoe or Bakersfield to get over the mountains. This is a very popular topic on this Forum and I am sure you will have no difficulty in finding an alternative route.
and maybe acrss into mexico for a day or 2,
You will be unable to drive your rental car into Mexico...But you can ride the trolley from San Diego to Mexico and walk around if you wish.

Death Valley is a wonderful place to visit in the winter and here are some ideas of places to exlplore around RTA's home town (Las Vegas).

    Happy Planning!
