Thread: LA To Vegas

  1. Default LA To Vegas

    Hello All-

I was planning to travel to LA for a trip of around 4 days. I am planning to spend time in LA on 24, drive down to San Diego on 25th and then maybe drive down for a day trip to Las Vegas on 26th. Come back to LA and then drive back to the SF area the next day. I will be travelling with a toddler and wanted to get a feel from the experts (i.e. you all :)) on whether this trip sounds realistic? especially the day trip to Las Vegas? Any suggestion on what to keep in mind, the road conditions this time of the year and the general description of how the highway between LA to Vegas is and how long it may take me to get to Las Vegas and back to LA would be helpful and much appreciated.

Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! Are you starting from LA or San Diego for the drive to Las Vegas? Depending upon where you start in LA, the drive to Las Vegas is about five hours. All interstate highway -- there was some snow on the passes this morning, but it should be OK on the 26th. If you are stating in San Diego it is closer to an eight hour trip.
Come back to LA and then drive back to the SF area the next day.
That seems like an lot of time spent in the car over four days. I would cut out ether Las Vegas or San Diego and enjoy your time in whatever cities you leave in.

That sounds like a good suggestion. I was thinking maybe going to San Diego would be a better bet. Would the Zoo be a better place to visit with a toddler during winter? Are all attractions open in the zoo during this time of the year?

I like the Wild Animal Park -- there is a fantastic butterfly exhibit where they land on you. I think the zoo is fully active now -- I would stay in San Diego overnight. Here is some more information.
